Frequently Asked Questions
Town of golden
How do I know what days my garbage and recycling are collected?
Your garbage and recycling is collected on separate days. To determine what your collection days you can find the collection calendar on the Town of Golden website.
What time should I have my container out at the curb?
Your container should be at the curb by 8am, but no earlier than 6am on your collection day.
Is there anything that I am not allowed to put in the Town of Golden curbside GARBAGE container?
Yes. The Town of Golden prohibits any items that can be recycled using the curbside recycling program, and any yard and garden waste (with the exception of weeds and invasive plants). Additionally, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District prohibits certain items to be disposed of in their landfills – please see the prohibited items list.
Is there anything that I am not allowed to put in the Town of Golden curbside RECYCLING container?
Yes. Only items approved by the RecycleBC program are allowed in your curbside recycling container. Prohibited items in the recycling can result in the contamination of the entire truckload of recycling. No glass, styrofoam, plastic bags and wrap, and more. Visit the Town of Golden’s and/or RecycleBC’s websites to learn more about the program.
My container wasn't collected today. What should I do?
If your container wasn’t collected on your collection day, it could have been due to any of the following reasons:
- The lid of your bear resistant curbside container was not unlocked for collection.
- Your container was overfilled. The Town of Golden bylaw requires that all container lids must be closed completely for collection. This is to prevent spillage when the container is dumped, debris from being blown around by the wind, and bags torn apart by birds/animals.
- Your container wasn’t out when our truck went by your home. Ensure your container is out by 8am on your collection day.
- Your container was placed the wrong way at the curb. The lid of your container must open toward the road. The handle should face the house.
- Your container was too close to another item (vehicle, wall, other garbage containers, etc). Your container must be at least 3 feet away from anything else on the sides of the container, and at least 2 feet off the backside of the container. The wheels of the container can be up against the curb.
If your container was missed and none of the above items applies to you, contact VP Waste Solutions Ltd. and we will look into it for you.

One container won't meet my needs. What other options do you have?
We can collect multiple containers per driveway. Extra containers are billed at a lower rate as long as it is on the same driveway.
